Gallery Wall Success!

24 Aug

Gallery walls are having a major moment right now. Gallery walls are basically an arranged artistic display of things that matter to you most including mirrors, pictures, arts & crafts, frames, Initials etc. There are really no rules when it comes to a well hung gallery wall, it’s really all about what you think works for your space.   I recently finished my gallery wall and have some tips that I want to share with you that made it easier for me.

Gallery walls are a process (mine took 6 weeks to complete) but don’t fret, YOU GOT THIS! One picture at a time.

Supplies & Art:

Hammer & nails, tacky glue, mounting putty (behind the frames that wouldn’t stay put), gold paint, sandpaper (to distress some of the frames)

*Mirror, clock, and framed elephant art available at Target.

*Twine wrapped Letter ‘F’, gold paint, decorative keys, tweed heart, and oval wood piece with keyhole ceramic piece all available at Michaels.

*Weathered brown frame (upper right) available at West Elm.

*All other frames available at Home Goods.

Gallery Wall Tips:

* Check Pinterest and Instagram Check these sites for gallery walls to see what styles, colors and arrangements you like.

*Everyone Can afford a gallery wall: My gallery wall pictured above includes only 2 pricey pieces, the rest are super affordable pieces (hello $25 mirror) mixed with DIY stuff.  Don’t let your budget stop you! Also, Don’t limit yourself to only store-bought items. If you love a particular frame in your home, you can paint it to match your theme. There are youtube tutorials for EVERYTHING and you can watch step by step videos on sanding, staining and painting frames.

*Make it your own: pick a color palette. I chose ivory, black & gold. All of your art doesn’t need to match, but having 2-3 primary colors makes it more cohesive when completed. I also went with only black & white prints and photos to keep things uniform.

*Don’t be afraid to use different frames: Different sizes, shapes & colors only add to the greatness of your gallery wall.

*Lay it out:  I cannot stress enough to lay out your gallery wall arrangement BEFORE putting anything on the wall. I layed mine out on the floor, changed it around a few times, took pictures and compared the pictures until I was happy with the arrangement.

*All in the family: Tie your gallery wall colors in with your surrounding couch, blankets, coffee table, and throw pillows. This keeps everything cohesive within the space.

*Hang time: Hang your artistic representation any way you want. I keep reading all sorts of rules about arranging your gallery wall, but just remember- it is YOUR gallery wall so hang it how you want. As long as it’s balanced with shapes & spacing, your gallery wall will be just fine. Speaking of spacing: The wall is your friend- the space between your art is just as important as the art itself. I started with putting my largest piece up and went from there. I chose to not put the largest piece dead center. I feel like that would be expected and it can cause your eye to be drawn toward that piece and not all of the fun stuff around it.

Breathe: You can do it!

  Budget Friendly Dainty Rings!

23 Jul

Dainty rings are my jam and I often get asked where all of my dainty delights are from. Hands down Catbird is my favorite place to get my dainty rings.  They are handcrafted from pure gold, silver, diamonds and gemstones which is amazing but comes with a hefty price tag. If you’re on a budget, have no fear….I have been finding the cutest dainty rings at Forever 21 lately, sure they might not last for years but at such affordable prices, it okay!! Below are my most recent finds, they are VERY similar to my favorite tiny heart and initial rings from Catbird.

Polka Dot Pumps!!!!!

2 Jul

How cute are these polka dot pumps??!!! pp They are on sale for $39.98 NOW at Aldo, Originally $80. I’ve been looking for polka dot pumps for a while, but haven’t found the right pair. I didn’t want peep -toe or the dots to be too small because I feel like that can look costumey. I also wanted the main color to be white with black dots- I have no reason for that, just preference I guess.  If you’re looking to buy polka dot pumps these are perfect for you, and if you’re on the fence and want to try something new and different, you should go for these because they adorable and on sale!!!! Cute Summer Sandals Under $25!

9 Jun

Hey guys, I scored on these cute sandals at Old Navy this past weekend and had to share!  First of all, they are beyond cute, second of all they are COMFORTABLE, lastly they are $24.95! Perfect in every way!  After some researching, I noticed they sell the brown and fuchsia online BUT they also had pale pink and black in stores. I saw pale pink and black at 2 separate locations, so if you want either of those colors, you’re going to have to hop in the car! So worth it though! Here is a link to the brown and fuchsia(which they are calling plum). Hope you find the color for you :) If you check out my Instagram @yourstylejourney, you will see me rockin’ the pale pink color today!

Rocksbox ROCKS!!!!

3 Jun

I am obsessed with Rocksbox!!!!!!  I have signed up with plenty of subscriptions boxes, and this is by far my favorite!  Rocksbox is a monthly jewelry subscription box that arrives in your mailbox each month and has hand picked (by a stylist) pieces chosen to fit your tastes. When you sign up there is a questionnaire where you choose all the styles that you love and from there, they make specific boxes just for you! The cool thing about Rocksbox is that it’s a loan box, so if you happen to not like something, you can just send it back for a different piece. Think of it as the Netflix of jewelry- you can keep your pieces as long or a little as you’d like and once you send them back, you get new pieces!!! All for only $19 with a $10 credit going toward the purchase of any pieces that you can’t live without. Each box includes three pieces (necklace, earrings, ring etc.) and if you fall in love with any of them you CAN purchase them after the $10 is applied. My first box arrived today and I am SO impressed with the pieces, they are all MY STYLE! I’ve got to be honest, I had no idea just how accurate the styles would be, but I am blown away….these are all pieces I would buy! I look forward to my next box, but I don’t want to send these pieces back anytime soon!!!! The struggle is real! I want to keep everything!

To learn more about Rocksbox click HERE. If you’ve decide that you want to give it a try- the first month is FREE with my the code JOURNEYBFF.
