Master Print Mixing!

20 Mar

Here is a clash course on mixing prints. Print mixing can be a little risky but with a little focus  this can be a very fashion forward look if well executed. I mean you can’t pile on prints and cross your fingers, you need to put some thought into it but it’s easier than you may think. Ok let’s get right into it….Rule #1 there are no rules! Really ! I mean we all know those fashionistas who live by “rules” and they’re missin’ out. If something looks great, it looks great  it’s as simple as that. I only have some simple suggestions to make this easier for you. When mixing prints I find you can look super chic or like a hot mess. Here are some of my suggestions to pull this look off with ease, followed by a LOT of pictures with plenty of examples to inspire your inner mix master. New to prints?? you can always buy a mixed media print top or dress so everything is already mixed for you. Throwing a printed scarf or animal print shoe in the mix is also an easy way to achieve this look.

COMMON THREAD

Literally find a common thread ,if your tweed coat has some navy in it and so does your striped dress……you’ve got a look! Adding a Navy polka dot clutch only makes the look BETTER!

MONOCHROMATIC

Having the main color of all your pieces be the same is the easiest way to mix prints. If you have a Pink and brown polka dot sweater and pink graphic pants and pink tribal flats, this works!

BIGGIE SMALLS

Big prints POP against smaller prints. Big stripes with little stripes and so on.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

Huge floral patterns pair perfect with little floral patterns as do different tribal patterns worn together, it just goes.

I love mixing prints, but don’t have too much practice with it myself. These are all gorgeous looks — especially loving the street style shots.
