My Marni Adventure

8 Mar

The day has  come!  Marni for H&M debuted today at select H&M stores across the country.  The wait for the fancy high-end Italian house’s affordable line is finally over. The collection included traditional Marni  bold printed blouses, flirty polka-dotted frocks, structured jackets as well as accessories — including a mix of chunky bracelets and necklaces. Only 3 stores in the LA area had the collection, so I chose an (indoor) mall location just in case I had to wait in a line long. I arrived at the mall at 9am ran up to H&M to find a wristband person(I read online they’d be giving wristbands out). I got my wristband with my designated “shopping time”10:45-11:00am on it. Every 15  minutes, they would let a group of 30 people in a barricaded area to shop. There was a guy with a megaphone screaming the time remaining. I just watched the frenzy for the next hour and 45 minutes until my group was let in.  I also watched in sadness as my beloved white flower necklace slowly disappeared off the shelves:( Finally they let my group in and I felt like I was on supermarket sweep…..my heart was racing. I Grabbed 7 pieces and ran to the dressing room with about 5 of my 15 minutes left to spare.  I fell in love with 2, a tribal top and a polka dot dress. Got in line bought my items and got the hell outta there, with a slight headache. On my drive home, I looked over at my H&M bag and envisioned myself on vacation in these super cute clothes. Thanks H&M!!!! Until next time………rumor has it a HUGE designer collaboration is up next ….. like Tom Ford huge;)

Here are some pics from my adventure today.

Spring Makeup

7 Mar

I love Spring makeup looks!!!!! Less is more and there seems to be a feminine ease to the looks.  I enjoy the “pretty” as opposed to the “punch” of the look. Smooth as opposed to dramatic. My 2 favorite makeup looks for spring are the Red lip & neutral eye and the sun-kissed dewy doll face &peachy pink lip.  Let me explain a little. I love a red lip but I really love when the eye is neutral to balance this look out, keeping all other makeup to a minimal while rocking the crimson lip looks WAY hotter than  a crazy eye plus crazy lip. The doll face look is my ultimate favorite and it starts out with a ridiculous amount of mascara, a touch of bronzer and/or peachy or pink blush and an understated lip(pink, peach, nude). Also, it’s time to grow those brows out! Go easy on the plucking  and take advantage of the only acceptable facial hair on a woman. YES clean up your natural brow, but please leave some behind (over plucking is so 1995) look up Pamela Anderson right now if you need a visual.

Tips:

BLUSH: You should never see where blush ends or begins.  (blend & swipe don’t want a circle or a stripe)

BRONZER: you can overdo the bronzer if you’re not careful. Well placed bronzer looks great , when applying it put it where the sun would naturally hit your face first. This means the forehead near the hairline, the temples, the apples of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose.

OOPSY: when you look in the mirror and realize you over applied blush or bronzer, don’t fret you can either blot some off with a tissue or what I do is wipe my brush off with a tissue and go over the area and the “empty” brush will pick up the extra.

Here are some pictures from recent Spring fashion shows where makeup artists got these looks SPOT ON!  Now you try it:)                             Images:Imaxtree.com

Rock the Rainbow (Wearable colored denim)

5 Mar

Colored denim can be wearable and stylish. Denim in a variety of rainbow hues, can add a playful punch to your look. This colored denim looks best in fitted styles, skinny & cigarette being the most flattering. You want them fitted but still comfortable, A little stretch always helps as well.  Colored denim looks great when color blocked with another bright colored top or if you want to downplay the color, you can pair these jeans with a white, black or neutral top. I love nude heels and wedges with this look, leaving all attention on the bright pant. Here are some styles to shop so you can step out in Spring color! Else Jeans in purple passion($68) available in assorted colors sizes 24-32 at Macys.  Michael by Michael Kors jeans in Iris($89.50) sizes14-24  and Joes jeans in nectar($158) sizes 24-32 both available at Saks. Mossimo jeans in Teal($22.99) available in assorted colors in sizes 3-17 at Target.

Crease Free Shadow

3 Mar

Eye shadow creasing will be a thing of the past with Urban Decay Eyeshadow primer. The #1 selling primer is legendary in the beauty industry. I have super oily lids so I have tried everything and many primers to no avail, until I was introduced to this product a few years back now I cannot live without it . Not only does it act as a bonding agent for my shadow to stick to (all day long) but it also makes the shadow POP and appear very vibrant . It is a cream that blends into all skin tones, and is easy to put on. It’s just a swipe on each lid and blend, wait about 5 seconds and your lids are ready for shadow, that fast!  It comes in a squeeze tube and comes in different shades to enhance your shadows or wear alone. ($20) available at Sephora

Top 10 Wardrobe Essentials!

1 Mar

Every closet should include some essentials, or carryover pieces to build your wardrobe around. Trends are great but the goal is to have great pieces that will live in your closet longer than one season.  Carryover pieces should be classic, versatile and great quality(Don’t hesitate  spending good money on these pieces, you’ll have them for years to come) FACT: A lot of carryover pieces are black. Black is flattering on all, impossible to see stains on,and will match most anything. Here are my personal can’t live without wardrobe essentials.

  1. LBD(little black dress)
  2. Leggings preferably black or navy
  3. Black Blazer
  4. Classic white shirt ( a T shirt or a button up)
  5. Great fitting pair of jeans(you may have to try on 50)
  6. Black pump
  7. Nude heel
  8. Cardigan(black,white,neutral)
  9. Day dress(light & flowy)
  10. Flat boots/riding boots.

Ok I’m not done yet: 3 bonus accessory essentials I love are Diamond studs, a black handbag and a colorful scarf.  No matter where you fall into the sartorial spectrum, adding trendy pieces to your basics makes life easy when your deciding what to wear, while keeping your closet functional.
