CONFIRMED: Alexander Wang to Head Up Balenciaga!

Although the news won’t  be officially announced until next week, it has been confirmed that 28-year-old Alexander Wang known for his clean yet edgy aesthetic has landed the job as Balenciaga’s new Creative Director.  Rumors have been swirling for some time as Wang was a top candidate for the position. In just five years, Wang’s own label has become very successful and his creations have plenty of commercial appeal. His shoes and handbags are top-sellers as well as  his diffusion line T by Alexander Wang. He will have his work cut out for him juggling this new position in addition to his steadily growing label, but I think he’ll do just fine!

Alexander Wang Rocco Bag Review!

Hey guys, I hope you’re doing amazing today. As you all know I did a post on the Alexander Wang Rocco bag with rose gold hardware in early October……I must admit, I  quickly became obsessed!!!!  I ended up caving after about 2 weeks (the fastest I have caved for any handbag) and treated myself to the bag.  Needless to say I LOVE IT and have been wanting to do a review on it and have gotten quite a few requests to do so as well….soooooo today while shooting some pictures for my OOTD on Instagram I took a couple extra shots of the bag to share with you and wanted to talk about a couple of things that I’ve noticed are missing from a lot of other Rocco reviews.

*The bag is beautiful OBVIOUSLY!  * I love the top handles in addition to a shoulder strap although it’s NOT long enough for cross body wear.  * I love the pebbled leather  * I love love love the rose gold hardware, matches a lot of my jewelry, namely my wedding set:) * the rose gold is a very nice tone, not the overpowering ultra cheesy pink shade that some rose gold hardware can have. * heavy-duty and very well made bag* the trademark studded bottom is very cool without being too crazy * the bag has the feel of the LV Speedy with a little more edge

NOW onto the 2 most important points…

1.CON: This bag is HEAVY! I’m talking 4 pounds!!!! EMPTY!  I personally don’t mind it but I know some of you might.

2. PRO: This bag has 2 “secret” pockets outside of the bag……I use one for keys, one for phone & lipstick. I like accessing my phone, keys etc without having to dig around the bottom of the bag.

There you have it…..overall my only con is the weight of the bag, everything else wonderful!!!!!! If you’re on the fence about this bag…..I say go for it!  It will be in your collection for decades to come!

Nina Garcia Promoted!

The 47-year-old project runway judge/author/fashion journalist was promoted from Fashion Director to Creative Director of Marie Claire magazine!  Congrats!!!!!!!!  This is pretty big news in the fashion world but comes as no surprise.  Project runway lovers have no fear, Garcia will still appear as a judge on the show.

Jenna Lyons Named Woman of The Year by Glamour

It is no surprise that super stylish creative director of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons, was named one of Glamour’s women of the year.  The 44-year-old inspiration started as a fashion assistant at J. Crew in 1990, worked her way up the old fashioned way and was named creative director of the mega-brand in 2007.  Myself and many others know J.Crew would NOT be where they are today without Lyons, it’s just a fact.  Not only is she the brains behind the brand, but also their most recognizable model.  Her style is uniquely casual yet polished, she has mastered the balance of masculine and feminine pieces while mixing textures effortlessly like no other. Thick rimmed glasses, middle parted hair and red lips were also a signature part of her look long before the trendy hipster crowds claimed it.  She is a style icon without a doubt, Glamour is spot on with this one!

Grace Coddington’s New Book

Grace Coddington is one of the original players in this fashion game, fashionistas all over the world admire and respect the style icon and are anticipating the upcoming release of her memoir  Grace: A Memoir .   If you’re expecting a juicy tell all, you will be disappointed.  “I’m not telling secret stories” Coddington said “not writing ugly things to get back at anyone. This book’s not gossipy”.  The 71-year-old creative director of American Vogue took the high road on this one choosing to keep the gist of the book quite positive and that is very refreshing in such a cut throat industry. The book will be based from her lifelong diaries and will  include a few of her own hand drawn illustrations as well. Set for release on November 20th 2012 , the book is available at Amazon.
