Urban Decay Revamps Eyeshadow

31 Mar

Everybody in the makeup industry is buzzing about Urban Decay’s complete revamping of the single eyeshadows. Urban Decay was the first “cool” eyeshadow I’d ever bought, not the same old colors that every other makeup brand offered. If you’re an Urban Decay shadow lover, then you’re gonna REALLY love this news!  Everything has changed, for the better. The actual eyeshadow formula, shade selection and packaging are different. The packaging is still a creative and cool subway token lookalike, but just a bit more modern. The color selection includes many of the previous shades that we all loved, best sellers, and favorites previously only available in select palettes for a total of 68 shades. As far as the formula, they have a super soft suede like velvety texture and even more blendable high pigmented distribution than the shadows I thought were already awesome! The color payoff is ridiculous, you don’t have to pack it on the lid with these dense pigments and the fallout is way less as well(no raccoon eyes)Sound like a dream come true?  Well it gets even better…… The newly designed cases allow for the shadow pots to be “popped” in and out. Why you ask? There is a new build your own palette YES you can select six different colors and mix and match them exactly how you want and  can change the palette as often as you wish. If your going on a tropical vacation you can take all your neutrals and grieges  along and if your headed to Vegas for the weekend you can bring your fun “party” colors. The palette comes with a travel size eyeshadow brush and one shadow to start you off called walk of shame (a peachy-pink matte shade perfect for base, highlighting or wearing alone) and comes in a sturdy mirrored case that’s fits easily into a purse. The palette with starter shadow is $18 and each eyeshadow is $18, so you basically get the case and brush for free!  Early launch RIGHT NOW only at Urbandecay.com  and Coming soon to beauty stores near you!!!!! and remember……Don’t forget your Primer!

Do you clean your makeup brushes enough?

26 Mar

Chances are you are NOT cleaning your makeup brushes enough. Brushes should be thoroughly cleaned once a week (or more if you have acne prone skin). YES at least once a week!!!!! Make it a priority ,make it part of your routine, just make it happen. The average brush holds onto Dirt, Oil, Dead skin cells, Bacteria and old makeup. Eeeeeeeeeew!!!  This can be a perfect breeding ground for a whole lotta NASTY! Besides that, dirty brushes can start to smell, sometimes like “wet rag” or mildew and the smell can get rubbed right back onto your skin with each application.  I have had a Makeup artist work on me with smelly brushes and I’ve hugged people and smelled it on their face, NOT FUN!  Make a commitment to clean your brushes today and your complexion will thank you:)

What to use:  There are tons of brush cleaners out there and that’s great for makeup artists because they can clean brushes fast and effectively between clients, but for the average person I suggest using warm water and baby shampoo.  Baby shampoo is strong enough to kill bacteria yet mild enough not to dry out the bristles.

How to clean:

  • Hold brush under running warm water with the bristles FACING DOWN, preventing water from getting into the ferrule (metal part) or into the wood and eventually rotting it and/or loosening the glue that holds the bristles in place.
  • Lather them up!
  • Rinse thoroughly. when you think they’re clean and the water run’s clear, Rinse again just to be sure! Leftover soap left on brushes can be just as damaging to your skin as a dirty brush.
  • Squeeze the excess water out with a cloth towel or paper towel, reshape you brush at this time if needed.
  • Lay brushes on the side to dry, NEVER dry with bristles facing up-even if you normally store your brushes this way- because water will settle into the ferrule. You can also hang brushes off the edge of a counter to cut the dry time. Most eyeshadow brushes dry in 3-4 hours but some foundation and kabukis can take up to 24 hours depending on the density of the bristles, so plan accordingly. Make sure brushes are completely dry before using.
  • Store brushes in their own home, not floating around the bottom of your makeup bag.
Cheers to clean brushes and clean healthy skin!

Vera Wang 1st ever Cosmetics Collection to Debut

24 Mar

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years, Vera Wang is all things Bride. She branched off into ready to wear, stationary, home decor, sunglasses and now Makeup:) She masters anything she does so I am looking forward to this line. I must admit I have only been to kohl’s once and it wasn’t for clothes(I found some great picture frames) but I will definitely go back now. This is the 62 year olds first ever makeup line. The 16 piece collection will debut in April and ranges in price from $16.50 to $39.50 and will be sold exclusively at Kohl’s. “Like fashion, makeup is transformational” Wang recently said and I couldn’t agree more.

Random Vera Wang Facts: Vera was a senior fashion editor at Vogue for 17 years. In 1987 Vera left Vogue after being turned down for the editor in chief position currently filled by the infamous Anna Wintour.  She worked as design director for Ralph Lauren while hatching a plan to open her own design salon. In 1990 she did just that, opening her first store at the Carlyle Hotel in New York featuring her wedding gowns. They always say when one door closes another one opens….in her case another door FLEW OFF THE HINGES!  Hooray for Vera getting turned down and having it lead to what she was really destined to do. So many brides are thankful for that, I was lucky enough to wear 2 magical Vera Wang dresses(I wore a bridesmaid dress for the reception) on my big day and I’ll never forget it. Now we can all wear her everyday with this makeup line!

Let’s talk Lips!!!

17 Mar

Okay a while back I did a post on my favorite lip products, Chanel Glossimer and Milani lipgloss. Chanel is definitely a splurge while Milani is super affordable. Well today on my trip to ULTA beauty I found something SO SIMILAR (looks and feels the same) to Chanel Glossimer and priced at under $2, yes you read that right. So if you like the look of the Chanel but not the price you now can buy this alternative:) Pictured Left: Chanel Glossimer in blizzard Right($29.50)available at Chanel stores and Dept. stores as well .Pictured Right: Essence xxxl shine in Big Night Out($1.99)available at ULTA beauty.

I also wanted to talk about my new favorite soft matte lip cream colors made by NYX.  Let me tell you they’re the best. They are highly pigmented like a lipstick, not glossy, yet not a stain. It dries to a matte finish while keeping lips moist ,unlike most mattes, with the texture of a balm. Perfect for the day when you want some color but not “crazy club lip”.($6) available in 11 colors at ULTA beauty and NYX.

P.S. I am loving ULTA beauty, it’s kinda like a Sephora WITH all the drugstore brands included. I spent $30 on my haul and walked away with 6 products!

Spring Makeup

7 Mar

I love Spring makeup looks!!!!! Less is more and there seems to be a feminine ease to the looks.  I enjoy the “pretty” as opposed to the “punch” of the look. Smooth as opposed to dramatic. My 2 favorite makeup looks for spring are the Red lip & neutral eye and the sun-kissed dewy doll face &peachy pink lip.  Let me explain a little. I love a red lip but I really love when the eye is neutral to balance this look out, keeping all other makeup to a minimal while rocking the crimson lip looks WAY hotter than  a crazy eye plus crazy lip. The doll face look is my ultimate favorite and it starts out with a ridiculous amount of mascara, a touch of bronzer and/or peachy or pink blush and an understated lip(pink, peach, nude). Also, it’s time to grow those brows out! Go easy on the plucking  and take advantage of the only acceptable facial hair on a woman. YES clean up your natural brow, but please leave some behind (over plucking is so 1995) look up Pamela Anderson right now if you need a visual.

Tips:

BLUSH: You should never see where blush ends or begins.  (blend & swipe don’t want a circle or a stripe)

BRONZER: you can overdo the bronzer if you’re not careful. Well placed bronzer looks great , when applying it put it where the sun would naturally hit your face first. This means the forehead near the hairline, the temples, the apples of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose.

OOPSY: when you look in the mirror and realize you over applied blush or bronzer, don’t fret you can either blot some off with a tissue or what I do is wipe my brush off with a tissue and go over the area and the “empty” brush will pick up the extra.

Here are some pictures from recent Spring fashion shows where makeup artists got these looks SPOT ON!  Now you try it:)                             Images:Imaxtree.com
