Street Fair Shout Out!

22 Aug

This past Weekend I went to Hester Goes Hollywood, a cool street fair with live music, food trucks and fabulous jewelry and clothing finds.  I was overwhelmed at the amount of cute stuff!  I overspent but left VERY happy. I made sure to grab a card at every vendor that I LOVED and now I’m going to share them with you.

Shoppublik. I loved their hanging spike bracelet and the zipper bracelet.

Agapanthanyc. I really like their use of vintage watch parts in their jewelry and their hammer necklace.

Visantine Collective. Great pieces and great construction. They had an amazing jacket, one of the best I’ve seen in quite sometime.

LeFashionTruck.  I scored on some amazing two toned faceted teardrop earrings. Plus it’s so fun shopping in that cute pink truck….and YES there is a dressing room inside as well.

Threeheartz. Great head wraps and infinity scarf collection as well as fun jewelry.

Skaist Taylor

21 Aug

Skaist Taylor is building a following…….fast!  The “California eccentric” collection brought to us by the LA based designers who gave us Juicy Couture in 1996, is making major fashion waves.  The team has since sold Juicy Couture to Liz Claiborne Corp. and have dived right into the Skaist Taylor line.  Pamela Skaist- Levy and Gela Nash- Taylor launched the boho- chic line during new York Fashion Week this past Spring to rave reviews.  Don’t worry there will be no tracksuits this time around!  Remember wearing those everywhere??????  I admit I must have a dozen tracksuits lying around and still wear them to lounge in the house, I was a bonified “Juicy” girl…. But there comes a time for every fashion “moment” to move on though and this is that time for Pamela & Gela!

Skaist taylor is available now at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Skaist Taylor.

Pretty Teal Eyeliner

20 Aug

Eyeliner is a definite must have product, waking your face up and instantly making your eyes POP!  One  swoop of colored liner brings a WOW factor to your eyes!  If you don’t really wear colored shadows, eyeliner is your “gateway” product.  I love all colors but am partial to teal,  the beautiful hue goes with many skin tones and eye colors as well.  A teal lined eye is bright and fun while remaining very wearable.  Simply put, it is pretty on everyone.

Teal eyeliner comes in a variety of forms… good old-fashioned pencil, liquid, gel and cream.  Whatever formula you prefer is just fine to achieve this look. You’re not out of luck if you don’t own any of these because as long as you have a flat eyeshadow brush and teal shadow, you can substitute it instead of liner for a similar look.

Some of the many ways to wear teal eyeliner:

Upper lash line

Lower lash line/water line

Rim the entire eye

Pair with neutral eyeshadow (looks great with bronzes, beiges & taupes)

From low-key to dramatic, below are some examples of the many ways to wear this mermaid-chic look. Take note on how great this looks on all skin tones, eye shapes and colors.

Shop these eyeliners.

Urban decay 24/7 waterproof liquid liner in teal($19) Lancome Gel eyeliner in teal/turquoise($24.50) MakeUpForEver Aqua eyes pencil in turquoise($18) Sephora wateroof cream liner in electric teal($12) all available at Sephora.

On a budget? Try Prestige liquid liner in big teal($5.59) or Ulta Kohl eyeliner pencil in aqua($7) both available at Ulta.

New Revlon Balm Stain

18 Aug

I just discovered a new lip product and I love it!  The Revlon Balm Stain is a moisturizing balm infused with a lightweight lip stain that gives lips  just enough color that lasts for hours. Balm stain is perfect size to take on the go and is in the form of a chubby crayon for precise application.  It’s a  perfect day-to-day lip product if you want to look slightly made up but not over the top.  Available in 12 colors at drugstores now for about $8. (I’ve seen them for $6.79 at Rite aid and $8.99 on Revlon.com)  These crayons are very similar to  Tarte lipSurgence  that retail for $24.

Bib & Collar Necklaces

15 Aug

Statement necklaces are a great way to add a bit of flair to a look and are an easy way to look effortlessly glamorous.  I’m a such fan of bib and collar necklaces, they  tend to sit up high on the neck (grazing the collarbone) and look great with dresses, tanks, t-shirts or over a buttoned up chambray or sweater.  I love how they can literally be worn as a collar, which is a fun twist on an otherwise normal necklace.  My only tip is to keep the neckline simple as to not take away from the necklace ( no busy patterned shirts etc) Below are some necklaces for you to shop.

Sequined collar necklace($9.90) and Cutout leaf necklace($5.80) both available at Forever21.

Agate and brass bead bib necklace($58) available at Anthropologie.

Chain & rhinestone bib necklace($20) and Ebony jeweled necklace($298) both available at Nordstrom.

Silver feather necklace($23) available at Lulu’s.

Hammered metal collar($18) and Aruba collar necklace($38) both available at Nastygal.

Gold tone snake-skin crescent bib necklace($16.80) and bead & spike necklace($30.80) both available at kohl’s.

Lip Tips!

14 Aug

Today I was asked what I would do with an almost new, broken lipstick…. In my teen years I would have thrown it away and begged my mom to buy me a new one.  A few years back I would have put it in an old lip balm container and used a brush to apply, Now a days I would do it differently.  My favorite lipstick saving tip is Not throwing it away or cramming it into another container…. I just take the broken piece in my hand with a tissue, find matches or a lighter, then slowly wave the flame under the broken piece.  When it barely starts to get warm, I put it back on the base, swivel it down carefully and put it in the refrigerator -uncovered for 30 minutes. I have come across so many random lipstick tips over the years, some working great and others, not so much.  Today I’ll share with you which ones work for me, hopefully you will also find them helpful.

First things first…..Keep lips hydrated, soft and smooth.

Make sure to gently exfoliate lips with a soft bristled toothbrush or a sugar scrub weekly.  I apply a moisturizer, then gently brush my lips in a circular motion, exfoliating the skin while moisturizing simultaneously. Also apply lip balm/moisturizer whenever possible… If you wear lipstick all day, apply balm/moisturizer when you get home and or before bed.

Fan of lipliner?

Some people swear by lipliner while others have no use for it.  I sometimes use it with darker lip color to prevent feathering of the color. Day to-day, I don’t use it.  However my greatest piece of lipliner advice is to pick a color that is the SAME  TONE AS YOUR LIPS, NOT your lip color.  My reasoning is….. a flesh toned liner will ensure that- should your lip color happen to fade, you won’t be left with a dark outline. We all know that is not a good look.

Looking for a “stained” lip look?

Apply a nice even coat of lipstick, then blot- twice. This will leave behind an evenly colored lip with a very natural looking stain.

My definition of blotting….. is using blotting sheets from your local beauty store OR kissing a piece of paper ( I prefer post-its). I don’t like blotting with traditional tissue because  they leave behind linty particles.

How to make your lipstick last.

Apply a nice even coat of lipstick straight from the tube, blot, then apply a second coat of lipstick. It will last all day and is very easy to do.  Blotting creates a nice base and the second coat adds the final touches (shine & coverage). When aiming for staying power, applying lipstick straight from the tube as opposed to using a lipbrush gives a richer application of color. Also I found that I don’t like applying powder to make lipstick last because my lipstick tends to get cakey, even with the lightest powder application and the “powder over a tissue” method simply is a lot more work for the same result..

Looking for a long-lasting colored ‘shiny’ lip?

Apply an even base coat of lipstick and finish the look off with a lipgloss in a similar shade as your base lipstick, which will achieve a high pigmented shine. There are plenty of great colored glosses out there, Lancome Juicy Tubes and MAC lip glass are some of my favorites.
