Sheer Perfection!

18 Jul

Let me start by saying that I love all things pink.  I love any and every shade of the pretty color but I’m partial to blush.  Blush pink is so soft and feminine, looks great on all skin tones, and goes with everything…..which led me to a year-long search for the prettiest sheer pink nail polishes. By sheer I mean that they’re almost like a clear polish with a slight pink tint to them.

I’ve tried so many pinks along the way and have narrowed it down to my favorite 3 that I’m going to share with you today.  The colors below are perfect for year round wear, but I especially love wearing them in the Summer. Also these beautiful understated hues are perfect for your wedding day.

Starting with the sheerest of them all,  Essie Sugar Daddy is like your nails, only better. This color looks like you have really healthy nails- think nude with a hint of pink.

Next up, a slightly pinker -but still not too pink color is Essie Mademoiselle. It is sheer just like Sugar daddy but can build (2-3 coats) to a pretty milky pink.

Lastly, this super shiny pink(slightly more pink than the others)  is OPI Passion. This color is similar to the others and can be built up just like mademoiselle can be. It’s the shiniest and longest wearing of the three as well.

Note: All three colors can be built up but remain sheer.

I’ve been quite obsessed with kimonos since I blogged about them last year. My favorite thing about kimonos is they can be worn as a part of many looks, whether it be worn over a body con dress or with jeans and a crop top.

Kimono Style! (Take 2)

28 Feb

Last Spring I wrote a Kimono Style post sharing my love for the light and airy pieces.  This year the kimono is going to be HUGE, I’ve been trying to tell the world for the last year and people are catching on! Last year’s post is getting so much traffic but most of the links are sold out since it’s been so long. I’ve decided to do today’s post and include shoppable links to plenty of kimonos that are available NOW! I have included petite, plus size and tall size kimonos as well….No fashionista left behind here! Ready, set shop! These are just some of my favorites, but there are many more at Asos (one of my favorite online shopping destinations, They have petite, plus size and tall sizes for many of their clothes!)

P.S. Throw your kimono over whatever the heck you want! They look great with jeans, shorts, skirts, over dresses etc!

Happy shopping,

xo, Journey

My FAVORITE New Beauty Product!

20 Nov

I love BB creams and tinted moisturizers very much.  I’m a huge fan of Smash Box BB cream as well as Laura Mercer tinted moisturizer and recently I’ve been using Origins VitaZing moisturizer and I LOVE IT!  VitaZing is somewhat in a category of its own….like the products I previously mentioned, VitaZing is definitely a multi tasking moisturizer , it has SPF, anti oxidant rich mangosteen and a hint of color…….NOT weird orangey fake tan color either,  it just evens out my skin while adding a healthy glow.  I have medium/slightly deep colored skin and it gave me a glow!  It smells great and is fun to apply(comes out of the tube white with tiny brown specs and turns into a beautiful warm color as it’s rubbed into the skin) I cannot get enough of this stuff!  It’s great because I can wear it alone with or as a base for my makeup without it being cakey and with NO irritation!  It is much greater than I can even begin to explain…..please go to your local Origins and ask for a sample…..but before you do read the reviews they speak for themselves.  VitaZing is available at Origins $35 .  If you want a light moisturizer that evens out skin and is wearable everyday, this is your product!

Coverage comparison:

Smashbox BB Cream: slightly heavy coverage

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer: medium coverage

Origins VitaZing: Light, sheer coverage.

Sheer Genius!

13 Oct

I tried Almost Lipstick by Clinique today and I love it!  I have always been a fan of tinted lip balms and stains because for day-to-day use I want moisture more than anything else, but a touch of color is nice.  Almost Lipstick is perfect for all day wear  it’s a moisturizing semi gloss, ultra-light lipstick. Not quite a gloss, and not quite a lipstick,  it’s formula looks great alone yet it’s sheer enough for easy layering.  Available in 8 shades ($15) at clinique counters and online at  Clinique.

I tried the black honey and it’s a very light plum color, although it looks dark in the tube. The colors are all very light and sheer.

New York Fashion Week is here!!!!!!! (Jason Wu Collection)

7 Sep

Hot off the tails of Fashion’s Night out…..New york Fashion Week is in full swing.  New york will host eight glorious days of fashion, before the fashion crowds head to London, Milan and Paris.

Jason Wu  presented  his Spring/Summer 2013 collection Friday.  Celebrating the woman’s silhouette, this collection had modern sex appeal, and a perfectly balanced contrast of hard & soft elements represented mostly with leather and lace although tulle and other sheer materials were present as well.  Most of the collection was black and white with some pops of navy and red.  I usually like a lot more color for S/S but this collection worked for me and I wouldn’t change a thing. Hair and makeup was perfect,  I was fond of the ruby-red lips and sleek side swept hair, which was beautifully done without being distracting. My absolute favorite moment was when legendary model Carolyn Murphy opened the show in her beautiful leather sheath dress. Amazing!

As for the collection, Wu said he was inspired by two photographers with differing styles — Helmut Newton’s erotically charged imagery and Lillian Bassman’s soft dream-like imagery. “It’s two completely different styles. One’s quite beautiful, couture and the other is quite provocative and sexy and I love the idea of those two coming together a softness and a hardness coming together and I wanted to make a collection that sort of balanced, just teetered on that line of sexy but still sophisticated,” he said.
